Advent begins

Sunday, December 2, will be the first Sunday in Advent. Do you celebrate Advent? Perhaps at your church? Lighting the Advent candle each Sunday with special Scripture readings and music? Perhaps in your home with an Advent calendar to count down the days to Christmas?

I love this song for the first Sunday in Advent:

Come, thou long-expected Jesus, Born to set thy people free; From our fears and sins release us; Let us find our rest in thee.

Born thy people to deliver, Born a child and yet a king, Born to reign in us forever, Now thy gracious kingdom bring.

By thine own eternal Spirit Rule in our our hearts alone; By thine all sufficient merit Raise us to thy glorious throne.

  1. Yes, we celebrate at our church! At the church we grew up in, we did not recognize Advent; I’m so glad our current church does! I love that song too, one of my favorites and so seldom sung!

  2. The beginning of the church year. When I went to church, we celebrated it very much in the Episcopal Church. I went to church last week and was reminded of the event. This is two reminders!

  3. This is such a pretty picture. My granddaughter loves her advent calendar.
