Remember the spider I killed the other day? And how it grieved me to kill anything? How about destroying the spider’s food net?

Although hard to see in that photo, my greenhouse pad is surrounded by spider webs. My natural bent is to clean them off, thus destroying the spider’s net to catch food, which happens to be the bugs that bite me and eat my plants.

I am conflicted.

  1. I personally hate spiders. They freak me out.

    • I’m quite happy with spiders who live outdoors, except for the web mess. But, they can’t catch their dinner if they don’t spin the web. It is a conundrum.

  2. The difference is that if you brush away the spider web they can always make a new one (hopefully in a place that’s convenient for you).

  3. I’ve never suffered from this conflict. I do try to be a bit more sensitive about spiders these days. I leave the beneficial spiders alone. The others aren’ spared.

  4. Oh, this is a hard one. I’d leave it alone if it were me. But it’s you, so you must decide. 🙂

  5. Well…. You know how I feel about spiders, so I’d just clean it off.
